Battery law references

Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. Consumers are legally obliged to dispose of used batteries and rechargeable batteries properly. You can hand them in free of charge at municipal collection points or wherever batteries are sold.

Batteries that contain harmful substances are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheelie bin. Below this symbol are chemical designations for the harmful substances they contain:

  • Pb: battery contains lead
  • Cd: battery contains cadmium
  • Hg: battery contains mercury

By disposing of batteries properly, you are making an important contribution to protecting the environment. Further information can be found on the websites of your local collection points.
